Fishing La Paz, Baja Mexico
Sport Fishing La Paz??? Well, to many first timers, the big misconception about Fishing La Paz is that the fishing is actually done in La Paz Bay. But in actuality, most of the fishing from La Paz is centered around the Cerralvo Island Region, about 35 miles south of La Paz to nearest point of the Island. Hotel Vista Cerralvo is only 6.5 miles from Cerralvo's productive south end. There is two ways to fish our Cerralvo Island area if you are staying at a hotel in La Paz. Your first option: You must take the shuttle van to the Cerralvo Island / Las Arenas fishing grounds near our hotel location, where your panga will launch near our beach area, but it's a 2 hour round trip van ride. Second Option if staying in La Paz: Your boat must depart directly from La Paz Bay to reach the nothern end of Cerralvo Island, but it's a 2 hour round trip boat ride, or four hours round trip if you're fishing the productive south end of Cerralvo Island. Fishing the "La Paz Side" typically refers to fishing the northern area around, Punta Coyota, Ispiritu Santos Isand, the northern end of the Cerralvo Channel, sometimes La Reina Rock at the north end of Cerralvo Island, and as far as El Bajo or Embudo bank on the north east side of Ispiritu Santos Island.
Fishing Las Arenas, Baja Mexico
What exactly is the "Las Arenas Side of La Paz?" Simply put, the Las Arenas side refers to the famous Cerralvo Island Region south of La Paz. Made famous by name after the old Las Arenas Hotel located at Punta Arena de La Ventana which is now out of business. Fishing Las Arenas from a La Paz based hotel is typically done by the 2 above mentioned options: By 2 hour round trip van ride, or direct boat departure from La Paz Bay which is about 4 hour round trip boat ride.
Fishing Cerralvo Island, Baja Mexico
Where to begin? Isla Cerralvo is the southernmost Island in the Sea of Cortez... and without a doubt, Cerrlavo Island is the most productive Fishing destination on the Baja Peninsula! This Island has steep drop offs on all sides which attracts Wahoo, Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, Sailfish, and many others as close as 100 yards from the Island! It also has some of the best Roosterfish beaches in the world, which has boasted some near world record Roosterfish over the years, as well as trophy, Amberjack, Jack Crevalle, Pompano, Pargo, and Cabrilla! Large Palegics follow the current into the deep, 6 mile wide trench of the Cerralvo Channnel. You can catch all of the above mentioned palegics anywhere within the channel! As you head south of Hotel Vista Cerralvo, there is no more islands for the morning sun to rise over, as Cerralvo is the southernmost island in the Sea of Cortez. Nothing personafies the Sea of Cortez like deserted desert islands dotted with cactus, such as Cerralvo Island. It's the incredible view of Cerralvo Island, and of course the incredible fishing that has held us captive to this beautiful location of Baja, Mexico.
Fishing East Cape, Baja Mexico
The East Cape Fishing Region is defined as Cerralvo Island to the north, to Los Frailes to the south, but centered around the town of Los Barriles, Baja Mexico about 35 miles south of Cerralvo Island. The fishing boats out of Los Barriles make the 70 mile 2 hour round trip to the Cerralvo Island region on a regular basis. It's because of the abundance and variety of fish that the East Cape fleets make this long journey to the Cerralvo Island Region. However, it's also because of the high fuel consumption and long boat ride that the fleets prefer not to make this journey, and typically fish the productive outer edge of the drop offs closer to to home in and around Los Barriles.
Fishing Ispiritu Santo Island, Baja Mexico
Ispiritu Santo Island in Baja Mexico is a beautiful uninhabited island located about 17 miles north of La Paz to its nearest point. It is made up of two islands, Espiritu Santo and Isla Partida, separated at high tide, then joined together by an isthmus when the water recedes at low tide. Most boats departing directly out of La Paz, prefer to fish the Ispiritu Santo area when the bite is good because its much closer than Cerralvo Island and other offshore high spots. Ispiritu Santo Island can be a good place to fish for Dorado, Cabrilla, Yellowtail, Amberjack, and Pargo with an occasional Marlin or Sailfish. However, most of the flashier pelagics such as Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Sailfish, & Striped Marlin are targeted around the Cerralvo Island region and other nearby high spots. As far beauty is concerned, Isla Ispiritu Santo boasts some of the prettiest coves and landscapes you could ever imagine! Vacation time permitting, It's definitely worth taking a tour of this beautiful Island.
